          It was being held in Bangkok from 12 to 17 December 1959, together with the Opening Ceremony. Participated 6 countries were Burma, Lao, Malaysia then Malaya, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam with a total of 518 athletes comprising 480 men and 38 women competed in 12 sports; namely athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, tennis, shooting, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and weightlifting. Thailand won most gold and overall medals with 35 gold, 26 silver and 16 bronze, to be followed by Burma and Malaysia (then Malaya). For Thailand, it sent 194 athletes to compete in the 1st SEAP Games with 155 men, 21 women and 18 team officials.
