            It was being held in Indonesia from 9 to 20 September 1987 in 29 sports, namely archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, bodybuilding, bowling, boxing, cycling, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, karate, judo, billiards-snooker, pencak silat, softball, sailing, swimming – diving, taekwondo, rowing-canoeing-waterski, sepaktakraw, table tennis, tennis, shooting-skeet and trap, weightlifting, windsurfing and wrestling. Most gold medals were awarded to Indonesia with 185 gold, 138 silver and 84 bronze; to be followed by Thailand and Philippines respectively. Participated 8 member countries were Brunei Darussalam, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
