         It was being held in two cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, from 5 to 13 December 2003 in 31 sports, namely archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, billiards-snooker, bodybuilding, boxing, chess, cycling, fencing, fin Swimming, football (men and women), gymnastics, handball, judo, karate do, pencak silat, petanque, rowing (canoe-kayak, traditional boat race), sepaktakraw (men and women), shooting-skeet and trap, shuttle cock, aquatics (swimming, diving, water polo), table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball – beach volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu. Most gold medals were awarded to Vietnam  with 158 gold, 97 silver and 91 bronze; to be followed by Thailand with 90 gold, 93 silver and 98 bronze, while Indonesia came third with 55 gold, 68 silver and 98 bronze. Participated was also a new member country, Timor-Leste.
