            It was being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 11 to 18 December 1971 with a total number of 957 athletes in  15 sports; namely athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, hockey, judo, sepaktakraw, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and weightlifting. Participated 7 member countries were Burma, Lao, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Most gold were awarded to Thailand with 44 gold, 27 silver and 38 bronze; to be followed by Malaysia and Singapore respectively.
